Assignment:  2-D Geometric Shapes

 

1.     Your task in this assignment is to design and create a colour insert for a CD cover.

 

2.     Specifications for CD Cover Insert:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

     IDEA: Make up a pseudonym for your favourite band/singer.

 

  1. Each student must now accurately measure the 2-D geometric shapes and then during the class presentation he/she must:

 

a.     Include a minimum of one (each) of the following formal shapes: 

Circle, Rectangle, Parallelogram, Triangle, and Trapezoid

b.     You can combine any of the formal shapes listed above

c.     Describe the geometric shape(s)

d.     State the size of the shape(s) (in cm or mm)

e.     List the formula(s) for both perimeter/circumference and  surface area of each shape.

f.      Using the formula(s), provide a detailed solution/answer stating the actual total surface area and perimeter/circumference of each shape.


     NOTE:  Modification:  For selected students only. The circle is optional, and does not have to be one of shapes included for this assignment.

  1. Students may use the following during his/her presentation:
    1. Blackboard, chart paper, and/or bristle board
    2. Computer with presentation software (eg. MS PowerPoint)

 

  1. All students will be evaluated based on the following 2-D Geometry CD-Cover and Presentation Rubrics.

 

  1. Colour Considerations for the CD covers:

 

 

Logos and design work will typically appear somewhat flat to allow for immediate and subconscious brand recognition. Donít overdue it with colour, you can achieve powerful effects simply by varying the value of a colour; use a full range of lights to darks

 

WARM AND COOL COLOURS and Symbolism

Cool Colours

Blue, Green and purple are considered to be calming colours that tend to recede.

 

Blue - Truth, inspiration, wisdom, protection, understanding, good health, happiness, peace, fidelity, harmony in the home, patience.

Green - Abundance, good fortune, generosity, money, wealth, success, renewal, marriage, balance.

Purple or Violet - Success, idealism, higher psychic ability, wisdom, progress, protection, honour, divination

 

Warm Colours

Red, yellow, orange are considered to be exciting colour that tend to pull to the foreground.

 

Orange - Encouragement, adaptability, stimulation, attraction, sudden changes, control, power, change luck.

Pink - Love, attraction, romance, spiritual awakening, healing of the spirit, togetherness.

Red - Health, energy, strength, courage, willpower, to conquer fear or laziness.

Yellow - Intellect, imagination, power of the mind, creativity, confidence, gentle persuasion, action, attraction, concentration, inspiration, sudden changes
